IDS student design competition

The Interior Design Society’s student design competition challenged me to create a functional, stylish space based on a detailed client brief. My project focused on a modern family living room, where the clients requested an eccentric color palette, rich textures, and easy-to-clean surfaces suitable for their active household. Incorporating a color palette inspired by 1920’s Miami, I added a citrus green, soft blue, and coordinating pops of color throughout. Storage was very important to the clients as they have a young family. I added pantry cabinets to the kitchen and an entertainment center with plenty of shelving for storage. Cleanability was key: I used performance fabrics for upholstery, porcelain tile flooring for durability, and scrubbable paint finishes for the walls. Each selection reflected the clients’ needs while maintaining a cohesive and inviting design. This competition allowed me to apply practical design solutions creatively, blending beauty and functionality to meet real-world demands and enhancing my skills as a future professional interior designer.
